The existing playground no longer met the needs of the families who visit Hope House. It lacked colour, texture and sensory stimulation, resulting in a space that felt disconnected from the hospice’s warm atmosphere.
The new design, created by CW Studios in collaboration with Hope House Hospice and Greenfingers Charity, responded directly to these needs. The aim was to create a sensory-rich environment that would be accessible and inclusive for all visitors.
Landstruction were appointed to deliver the project, carrying out the enabling works and landscaping to bring the vision to life with care and precision.
Our team began by carefully removing the existing playground equipment and preparing the site for redevelopment. The ground was shaped and re-levelled to form new, accessible levels ready for installation. Sections of colourful rubber tarmac surfacing were then laid to define key play areas and provide a safe, durable base. These works provided the foundation for a functional and welcoming outdoor space, ensuring every detail was considered.
A series of inclusive play features were installed, each chosen to stimulate the senses and encourage interaction. The space includes a sensory tunnel, accessible swings, a slide, musical play posts and areas of colourful surfacing. Together, these features create a playful environment that encourages movement, sound and touch for children of all abilities.
The planting brings a sense of calm and softness to the garden, weaving natural texture and colour through the space. Wildflower and grass areas introduce seasonal change, and sensory planting has been chosen for its fragrance and touch. Every element works together to create a gentle contrast to the play equipment, encouraging moments of exploration and rest.
This project has transformed the outdoor space at Hope House into somewhere families can relax, play and spend meaningful time together. The new garden is inclusive and full of life, creating a lasting place for connection and comfort.
